Where was I?

First of all, my apologies for writing in a while. If you have been wondering where the hell was I, remember that I've been in a 'real' grind at PGPX. Do not believe me? Do you know that in last 10 weeks:

- We've worked on close to 75 cases

- We've written 12 surprise quizzes/ mid term

- We've written 9 full-length exams

- Around 140 classes were held and we attended ALL of them

- We wrote/ co-wrote/ contributed to close to 50 reports/ submissions/ PPTs

Still skeptical? How about the following picture, which shows the amount of work load, we just endured :)

On a separate note, it has been a rewarding experience so far. The whole batch has shown lot of character and people have gone out of their ways to help others. To this 'spirit' (though Gujarat is a dry state) of PGPX 08-09, I'd say - I'm lovin' it.

Between, we got done with term I today (Sunday). Term II begins tomorrow (Monday). Gotta go. It is a 2-case day tomorrow! As SG very aptly captured and modified Citi's global campaign as follows:

Every night you sleep,
But your Dreams are wide awake; because
Ambitions never sleep
Aspirations never sleep
Goals never sleep
Hopes never sleep
Opportunities never sleep
The world never sleeps
That's why we work around the clock
To turn dreams into realities
That's why IIMA never sleeps
The PGPX never sleeps

Communication - what for?

We draw lot of inferences during communication. These inferences are drawn due to our pre-conceived notions or due to our experiences with similar situations in the past. For an effective communication to take place, it is important to nullify the effect of such inferences as much as possible. It is a good idea to get to know the other party before the communication, so that different interpretations for similar actions can be avoided.

We discussed a case today, in which, each party did the right thing as far as their respective positions are concerned. However, no one cared to look at the holistic picture and hence, expected results were not produced. We tend to do the same thing in real life as well where in, we remain preoccupied with our interests, our personalities, our inferences, in a nutshell, with ourselves. If we begin to look beyond ourselves, begin to listen to people, many of our problems tend to disappear. It is important to note here that merely listening will not do. One needs to be an empathic listener and develop a rapport before any conclusions can be drawn.

******************************
While writing a report, it is a very good idea to borrow thoughts, information, etc from other sources (journals, consulting reports, authors, etc). While writing a report, it is ESSENTIAL to mention the references.

Today is a nu day!

I've joined IIMA today, as a student for their PGPX program. The program will be conducted at IIMA's new, sprawling campus with a tinge of grey everywhere. The facilities are good enough to make you comfortable and the only thing, I'm complaining about is Ahmedabad weather. The campus is located in newer locality of Ahmedabad, which is reasonably good. IIMA is building lot of infrastructure to prepare for the expansion (of PGPX presumably).

During the registration, we've been given a couple of cases, which we need to read before our classes begin on April 6th. We would also receive our course material and will come to know about our study groups in next couple of days. We've been warned enough to be ready to handle the impending pressure of cases, quizzes, exams, presentations, and what not.. We're at a stage where there is only so much we can really care for right now. We can prepare but I'm sure, we'll be swamped with work and all the prep (read study) strategy will be thrown out of window. Wish me and my batch mates good luck, folks!

PGPX-II placements and PGPX-III profile

Information on placements for current batch of PGPX (PGPX-II) is available at IIMA web site now.
Check this out: http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/pgpx/pgpxplacement.html

IIMA web site also contains information on profile of incoming batch of PGPX (PGPX-III), of which, yours truly is a part. Check the link: http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/pgpx/currentbatch.html

Needless to say, with this kind of profile, current batch of PGPX is going to be a very stellar one.

IIMA calling

After having constantly thought over and over again, I've finally decided to join IIMA for PGPX. My decision to leave PGPEX (at IIMC) and join PGPX has come from the following:

- More aligned with my aspirations and personal life
- A larger batch size, offering more diversity
- A better brand recognition, older program

As far as academics are concerned, I would not have any qualms with IIMC. However, I went by what I felt right. In the end, only time will tell how right I was..

I'm back in Mumbai now and in the interim, have joined my old organization, i-flex. We would relocate to Ahmedabad in April this year. Really looking forward to it!

Survived 2 weeks at IIMC - PGPEX

Having successfully completed 2 weeks in the program and I've begun to feel the heat. We've discussed around 6 cases so far and there are many more to come. Faculty out here is excellent and everything since our registration has been handled very professionally so far. The program is attracting lot of attention from institute's management, 2-year MBA students and alumni. The kind of learning, which is happening via class discussions, study groups, presentations and drawing on to past experience is unparalleled.

Facilities are also pretty decent. Family accommodation is a bit cramped, but not to cry for. Food is good. Wi-fi works campus-wide. Scenic campus, night-long canteens, away from hustle-bustle of the city and easy access to study sources make IIMC, what it is. I'm pretty excited on the prospect of learning ahead.

Looking forward to yet another long night..

Welcome to the grind at PGPEX-II

The second batch of PGPEX joined IIMC on Dec 3rd in a formal ceremony, which was also attended by very senior professors and staff members. There are people from Power & Energy, Steel, Merchant Navy, Oil, IT/ ITeS, Govt Services, etc. With an average GMAT of around 705 and work-ex of 9.6 yrs, this batch is certainly going to go places.

We've been very clearly told on day 1 to get ready for the grind and boy....we've already begun to feel the heat. We've 7 credit and 1 non-credit course in this term and classes would be held at least 6 days a week. Adding to this are quizzes, mid-term tests, submissions, group presentations, end-term exams and what not! Faculty seems to be top class and I'm certain that 1 year at IIMC is going to be an extremely rewarding time for the participants (including self).
